Gurudham Temple Varanasi

Varanasi, India’s oldest city is also known as ‘The City of Temples’, because it has numerous temples. The temples here are not only famous because of the religious beliefs but they are also known for their unique architecture too which attracts many visitors from across the globe. Besides this, each temple holds a philosophy behind its construction.

Amongst the various prominent temples in the town, Gurudham Temple is the one where you can seek spiritual elevation. Located near the Bhelupur area, this temple is a beautiful example of mixed style of architecture. The name itself holds a significant meaning where the word “dham” denotes light and the complete word Gurudham means ‘The Light of Knowledge’.

This temple was built in the year 1814 by Raja Jay Narayan Ghoshal who was the king of Bengal. The distinguishing feature of this temple is its octagonal architecture which consists of 8 entrances and 8 courtyards. This historical temple is around 200 years old yet its construction style depicts philosophical symbolism be it on its entrance gates, stairs or the symbols on the wall. Thus, it is a place of high significance for the people who are seeking divine spirituality.

Currently after its renovation by the Uttar Pradesh Archaeological Department, this temple has been included in the tour map of the tourism department.

Since it is one of a kind temple where one can seek and witness the Tantrik and spiritual elevation, this fact is attracting a lot of visitors here each day.
