Deen Dayal Upadhyay, a name which has been forgotten in the pages of history but in the reminiscence of past, he has been one of those pivotal leaders who have contributed significantly to the nation building on ground level.
Born in 1916, in a small village near Mathura, Shri Upadhyay was an Indian politician and thinker. Who was strongly driven by the RSS ideologies. He was a former leader of the political party, “Bharatiya Jana Sangh” and the leading light of the Bharatiya Janta Party.
He was found dead on 11 February 1968 on a railway track near Mughalsarai Junction Railway Station and almost 50 years after his death, under the reign of the Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, the Mughalsarai Railway Junction was renamed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction in his honour.
Being a distinguished leader who had majorly contributed to the nation, his 63 feet tall statue has been constructed and unveiled on 19th February 2020 at the Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Centre, Padao, Varanasi.
The statue is made up of “Panch Loha” (5 elements) which is the tallest statue of the leader in the country. The memorial centre also has the life and time engravings of the Late Deen Dayal Updhyay.
According to the official statements, over 200 artisans have worked for almost a year to bring it to the world, out of which 30 Odisha artists and craftsmen have also contributed their art and skill to make this fine work of art and pride, making it one of the many tourist attractions of Varanasi to know about our pasts.
