Sankatha Ghat
At the top in the steps of this ghat, with the beginning of the narrow lanes, lies the temples of Yameshvara and Harischandreswara the names suggest, the place might have been a cremation ground back in time. Its old name was Yameshwara Ghat after the name of the shrine. Even in the present era, on the occasion of Yama Dvitiya, devotees take a holy dip in the ganges on the bank of this ghat. In late 18th century king of Baroda ordered a construction over this ghat, but after his demise Beniram Pandit’s widow, better known as “Panditain” and his nephews built this finished the job together with a building structure of the temple of Sanktha Devi in 1825. The ghat is called Sankatha Ghat, after the name of the sacred temple of goddess Sankatha, established over the ghat.
