Gaya/Gai Ghat:
Gai Ghat has an important religious significance. People believe that by taking bath at this ghat one can be free from the sin of killing cows and due to this reason this Ghat is known as Gai (cow) ghat. According to another legend people used to take their cattle here for bathing and drinking water after which this Ghat gets its name. This Ghat was mentioned as Gopreksha Ghat in Linga Puran. In ‘Girwanmanjari’ this Ghat was first mentioned as Gai Ghat. The southern part of this Ghat was built by the king of Nepal, Rana Samsher Bahadur and the northern part was renovated by the royal family of Gwalior. At the southern top of the ghat there is a big palace built by the king of Nepal where there are three Shiva temples inside and at the northern top there is a palace built by the Gwalior royal family where there is a Lakshmi-Narayan Temple inside the palace. Latter on the palace of Nepal’s king was bought by the famous businessman Dalmia. This palace is now known as Dalmia Bhavan. This Ghat bears a huge importance in spiritual significance. Many sacred practices like Ganga-Pujan, Mundan, Pind-Daan, Marriage etc can be observe here.
