Before 1950 this Ghat was a part of Gai Ghat which is situated at the northern side of the ghat. This ghat was the residence of Baba Shyamaldas, a native of Bihar. In 1950 Baba Shyamaldas established a Hanuman Temple here after which this place was named as Hanumangadhi Ghat. There is a traditional school at this ghat named Mahatyagi Ashram which was built in 1980 by Raman Mahatyagi, a follower of Baba Shyamaldas where there is a provision of free education on Sanskrit, Yoga, Tantra and Astrology. Also there is a wrestling arena at the Ghat for the body builders.
