Bundi Parakota Ghat

Bundi Parkota Ghat is one of the most important Ghat among all other Ghats in Varanasi which were renovated in late 16th century. This Ghat was built by the King of Bundi (Rajasthan), Maharaja Rao Surjan. We can see the remains of his abandoned Palace even today. Previously it was called as Adi Visheswar Ghat as stated in ‘Girwanmanjari’. Adi Visheswar Shiva Temple can be found inside the palace due to which it was named as Adi Visheswar Ghat. Till early 20th century this Ghat was stretched from Bundi Parkota Ghat to present Shitala Ghat. After the formation of Shitala Mandir this big Ghat divided into two parts. In 19th century Maharaja Rao Pritam Sing renovated Shitala Ghat. In 1958 UP government again repaired the Ghat and named it as Bundi Parkota Ghat after the kings of Bundi. Neighborhood of this ghat is populated mainly with Rajasthani people.

At the top of the Ghat there is a 18th century Shitala temple due to which this Ghat is named as Shitala Ghat. Before 18th century it was a part of Adi Visheswar Ghat which is presently known as Bundi Parkota Ghat. As previously mentioned this Ghat was built by the king of Bundi, Maharaja Pritam Singh. In 1988 irrigation department Repair the Ghat with the help of UP Government.

In the month of Chaitra, the local peope celebrate a religious fair along with holy bath. Rajasthanis are the dominated population here.
