Durga Ghat
The name derived its association with the Brahmacharini Durga temple. Brahmacharini Durga is also known as Chhoti Durga of Kashi. the very first suggestion about this ghat is in ‘Girwanmanjari’. In 1772 Narayana Dikhit, a guru of Pesavas, had purchased land from local resident fishermen and built two Ghats: Durga Ghat and Brhma Gath. It was rebuilt and repaired in 1830 by Nana Phadanavisa, a Diwan of Gwalior state, whose building at the top of the Ghat is known as Phadanavisa Wada. This Ghat has an immense importance during Navaratri/ Dashera festival. The Mukkebaji competition is very famous among the people during this time. The neighborhood is mainly populated with the Maharastrian Brahmins some of whose are scholars of Vedic Studies and follow the Gurukul system of education.
