The origin of the development of this Ghat is factually dilemmatic as some of the scholars suggest, the ghat was first built by Digpatiya, The ruler of Bengal in 18th century, while others suggest it was built by Pratapaditya another king of Bengal in 16th century. Chausathhi Ghat, as the name suggests, means 64. The temple built over the steps of the ghat, enshrines 64 statues of Yoginis who are the lady mates of goddess Kali.
