The name of this Ghat comes from a legend. It is believed Kshemak, a monster established a temple of Lord Shiva out of his devotion, and the temple and the Ghat it is situated in, both were named Kshemeshwar. The northern area of the Ghat was developed by Kumarswami Matha in 19th century, later on in 1958 entire Ghat was developed by irrigation department.
